Setting tile

When I create a main window I would like a title to show up in the top of
it.  Currently it only shows *****.
I do a gtk_window_set_title(GTK_WINDOW(mw),"LaffEdit");
I whould have assumed that that would have showed up in my title.
What Am I doing wrong?
