Are the "focus_in_event" and "focus_out_event" events the ones you need ?
If yes, you'll need to write code:
gtk_widget_add_events(GTK_OBJECT (wigdet), GDK_FOCUS_CHANGE_MASK);
gtk_signal_connect(GTK_OBJECT (wigdet), "focus_in_event",
GTK_SIGNAL_FUNC (focus_in), data_p);
gtk_signal_connect(GTK_OBJECT (widget), "focus_out_event",
GTK_SIGNAL_FUNC (focus_out), data_p);
