Opps,
	libtool has AR set to "ar -rv", so I assumed that this was a libtool
problem.  Turns out that libtool was just copying in the environment
variable AR, which was set in my .cshrc to "ar -rv".  I never put 2 and 2
together.

Boy is my face red....
