Applying styles to ItemFactories?

When you apply a style recursively to all the widgets a given container
contains, everybody gets the color and style you gave it except for
pulldown menus in ItemFactories.  Why is that?  The actual menu bar is
colored like the style specified, but the pulldown menu is the normal
default GTK+ greyish.  Are those menus created on the fly?  How would I
get the style I specified earlier to apply to those menus?
