You have installed the new GLIB 1.2.6 to
the '/usr/local/' - tree ?
see the configure script 
grep the prefix line default =/usr/local
if so, please
change to etc
edit ld.so.conf
add line 
/usr/local/lib
before
/usr/lib

and run
ldconfig -v
