program causes computer to instantly reboot

The bug was short and dumb. The program was expecting a certain character
in a file at which point it would quit reading from the file... the
character wasn't there so obviously the program was going to try and
continue to read from the file... I never would have expected this to
reboot my machine however.

Is this normal somehow????????????????????

I'm just checking before I try an report a bug somewhere.

I'm posting here first in the suspicion that maybe gtk grabs some special
privledges somehow.
