Displaying TABs in text

Is there a way to automagically expand tabs in the text that gtk
displays? In my case, I'm reading a TAB infested file and displaying it
in a Clist. On one of my Linux boxes the tabs are expanded and on the
other they aren't. After sifting through the faq and gtk/gdk source I've
come to the (perhaps incorrect) conclusion that it's controlled by X. I
realize I could write a simple filter, but...

Thanks,
Scott
