Painting a pixmap on windows background

Hello all,

        I am looking for a way to paint the toplevel window widget with a
pixmap image.  I am able to create a widget using gtk_pixmap_new() and add this
widget to the window, but this isn't really what I want.  Id like to paint the
window with it and add widgets on top of it.  Thanks for any help.
