Recommendations on tutorials/FAQs/sources for implementing interface

I'm working on a program, developing the functionality in console mode.
I've not built a prog with a GUI before.  I'm interested in pointers
to FAQs, tutorials, or other resources to demonstrate how to implement
GTK+ or GUIs generally "compartmentalized" i.e. not integrated into the
existing code but simply as a separate GUI interface to the code.
