I tried your advice, no dice. I notice that gide does change its widgets
coloration appropriately, but not the textures.
[joschi@bw66 engines]$ cat /etc/ld.so.conf
/usr/i486-linuxaout/lib
/usr/lib
/usr/i486-linux-libc5/lib
/usr/X11R6/lib
/usr/local/lib
/usr/lib/gtk/themes/engines/
[joschi@bw66 engines]$ /sbin/ldconfig -v
*snip*
/usr/lib/gtk/themes/engines/:
libredmond95.so => libredmond95.so
libpixmap.so => libpixmap.so
libnotif.so => libnotif.so
libmetal.so => libmetal.so
*snip*
[joschi@bw66 engines]$ gide
Gtk-WARNING **: Unable to locate loadable module in module_path: "libpixmap.so",
*snip*
