Typing over selection...

In an entry widget, when text is selected, and then typing is done,
the typing is just inserted at the insertion point.   In most existing
GUIs, if text is selected, the next character typed replaces the
selected text.   This turns out to be very useful behaviour.   Is
there some reason why the GtkEntry widget doesn't do this, or is this
just To Be Implemented?
