callback marshalling & event return values

I'm developing a callback marshaller for an interpreted language.
Everything seems to work fairly well except that I don't know how to
return an integer value for those event signals that accept one.  How
is this done?

(Examples of such signals are "destroy_event" and "button_press_event".)
