Menus in GTK--

Hi.

 I'm new to this list, as well as to GTK+ and GTK--, and I don't know
how to implement a simple menu. I'm reading information about GTK, but
when trying to translate it to GTK--, all I get is problems. Can anybody
tell me where to find a good example of a menu in GTK--?

 (I'm using GTK-- 0.9.1 and GTK+ 1.0.0 on a RedHat 5).
