Possible to place widgets *on top* of CList?

Is there any easy way to place a widget on top of a CList?  We want to
use a CList (for now) as the GnoMoney register widget, but we want to
allow in-place editing.

I thought a relatively simple way to do this might be to pop up an
entry widget on top of a CList cell whenever the user clicks on the
cell.  Is that going to be relatively easy?  I couldn't figure out a
simple way to do it...
