Thank you, all of you:

For your help with getting GTK up and running. It seems that all I had
to do was run a ldconfig /usr/local/lib and everything worked fine. I
compiled GIMP with no problem, and am on my way. I had lost some faith
in the GPL free software concept, but you guys as well as GIMP itself
has renewed my excitement. Thanks again.
