Gimp installation

Question about Gtk and Gimp,

Why should I install and compile the gtk library (anyway it doesn't
compile) to have Gimp working ?
Is there binary distribution of both gtk and gimp ?

If I absolutly need to compile gtk, where to find the include files need
by gtk (for X developing as someone reply to me)
