I see you have 2 choices. 1 You can use Imlib, 2. you can write your
own colro allocation, and XImage / dithering routines for 1,4,8,15,16,24
and 32 bpp. :) several parts of GNOME currently require Imlib, so it
won't be unusual to use Imlib.
