That's the gtk+ tutorial, not gtk--. There isn't any gtk-- tutorial
yet, you'll have to Use the Source, Luke. Aside of the examples that
come with gtk-- itself, there are a couple more on my homepage (I'll
settle something about my own widgets soon) :
