Bug in the statusbar widget?

Recently while working on my application, I noticed the status bar is very
easy to get messed up. What I mean by messed up:

I have lots of async activity going on, I'm using the status bar for...
yup you guessed it status of the background stuff.

Whats happening is lots of status updates will happen and the status bar 
becomes unreadable. (they get all layered on top of each other)

I'm not sure if this is the status bar or the underlying lib doing it...
