To use the Debian files, you need to get the debian source packages
from

  ftp.debian.org/pub/debian/dists/unstable/source/devel/*gtk*

(I think) and then unpack them via:

  dpkg-source -x libgtk1_970925-3.dsc

Alternately, you can just untar the upstream source (ignoring the
debian diffs)

  tar xzf libgtk1_970925.orig.tgz

Or you could just go to ftp.gimp.org and get the newest upstream
source tarfile directly.

In any of these cases, you'll find the testgtk.c file in the gtk dir
inside the untarred subdirectory.
