Hmm.. spose it's a feature of the resize code :) Anyway, you can tell a
window to shrink by using:
void gtk_window_set_policy (GtkWindow *window,
gint allow_shrink,
gint allow_grow,
gint auto_shrink);
and setting auto_shrink to TRUE.
eg:
gtk_window_set_policy(GTK_WINDOW(window), TRUE, TRUE, TRUE);
