Starting Programming in CJK

Hi,
I would like to start programming in Chinese/Japanese/Korean language in 
GTK. Could anybody help me where to start, please? What do I need to setup 
before I can do programming in CJK? I have been trying to show 
Chinese/Japanese/Korean text in GtkLabel, GtkEntry, etc. but they just 
failed to show my character (do I miss fonts?)

I have Slackware Linux installed on my PC (standard installation). I do not 
install any CJK extension.

Can anybody help me with information and some code for starting up? :)
