It isn't.  And certainly not doing it by making the file chooser
even larger!

But while you are mentioning it, the file chooser's default size
does not grow when you add widgets (such as file type and encoding
selectors), i.e., the area for files shrinks.

I have the same problem for Gnumeric's text importer.  The lines in
the preview treeview really have to use long distance phone service
to talk to each other.
