I have noticed that most users (not advanced) come to EXPECT double click to
activate things. I am mainly speaking about Windows users, for e.g. an icon
on the desktop, in a folder (same thing). Only when the selection follows
the mouse (like the Start Menu or application menus) do they do a single
click.

I would say that a single click is sufficient. A double click on a row
should activate it, if people double click the expander AS WELL, this pleeds
the question, where does the expander stop and the row begin? If there is a
single click for one thing and a double click for the other, there should be
less cock ups for the no so advanced user.

I am used to shortcuts on both Windows and Linux, and I quite like the way
that Windows has a shortcut (F2) to rename a file selected in a folder. I
would say this would be good to add but on the issue of clicks to start and
stop editing, the item should be selected FIRST then clicked again to start
an edit. To stop an edit, the focus should be taken away from the edit box
(e.g. another/same row clicked or another widget focused) or the
Enter/Escape key pressed.

I would REALLY like to see the implementation of grid lines, see:
