Sending to the list is fine, but you should also attach the patch to
the bugzilla bug that it's related to, or open a new bug if needed.
Then it won't get lost.

Most likely one of the GTK maintainers will need to spend several days
on this validation issue for GTK 2.2, to educate themselves on it, so
it may take a while before someone can respond - right now the focus
is on getting 2.0 finished. If you have the patch in bugzilla though
you can be sure it will be looked at.
