bug #50266 says:

There's no real reason to have separate text and pixbuf cell renderers;
we could just have a single GtkCellRendererTextPixbuf that allows either
the text or the pixbuf to be NULL. Then we can throw out a bunch of extra
code and docs, and keep things a bit smaller/simpler.

Is there someone who is working on this? If not I am willing to take a look
at it.
