Configure question

Could someone please enlighten me on the relation between configure events 
and realize events?

It seems from some code I have been writing that I am getting configure 
events before realization is completed.  This seems wrong to me, but I am 
willing to be enlightened.

I'm having a tough time splitting this stuff out because I have to 
instrument the libraries.  Is there a flag I can turn on that helps with the 
instrumentation?
