OK, so I've filed a bug:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=104181
Unfortunately, the combination of spinbuttons and gconfmm is almost
unusable right now. I tried fiddling with the spinbuttons of some of
the C-based GNOME applications, such as the task list, but I can't
make them crash.
