[gnomemm] how to use isA() and get_type method

I want to find the type of a canvas item. I have see CanvasItem is two 
method
> Gnome::CanvasItem::get_type();
> Gnome::CanvasItem::isA(Gtk::Object * checkcast);
Anybody can tell me how to use the two mathods? for examples, to check the 
item is of CanvasPolygon type or not. Please give me a piece of code :-)
