I have a Sony DCR-TRV8:
* it works with kino; check that your work with it too, if it doesn't,
go and ask on #kino, irc.gnome.org;
* the plugins' system that will be used in gm's next version has an AVC
plugin, that is able to handle it for video input (sound isn't supported
yet);
