[GnomeMeeting-list] kernel-2.4.21-rc2-ac2, quickcam.o module and gnomemeeting 0.98.0

Hi To all:

I had a problem with the combination explained in the subject of this
mail.

quickcam module ( for my Logitech webcam Express ) compiled without
problems downlading sources and following instructions from Tuukka Toivonen
web page http://www.ee.oulu.fi/~tuukkat/quickcam/quickcam.html, and
Gnomemeeting was rpmed without problems getting rpms from
www.gnomemeeting.org.
Launching gnomemeeting and activating local video was easy and all
went OK, but connecting with coworkers with MS-Netmeeting/Windows results
in gnomemeeting erratic behaivour. For example: The MS-Netmeeting is not
capable to show received video but gnomemeeting shows received video from
MS-Netmeeting perfectly. The local video showed by gnomemeeting gets
misconfigured, getting bad image colors and image zoomed and image freezed,
trying to rescan video dev in the Preferences->Video devices, ends with no
/dev/videoX detected, only is available the static image. Sometimes
gnomemeeting entirely frezzes and the process must be killed.
Taking a look to the quickcam module messages, it claims that a user
program ( gnomemeeting in this case ) has any bugs referring in how the
user program gets video data. The same message invites to use a parameter
to activate some type of workarround. Activating this parameter solves the
problem, and the use of gnomemeeting is pleasant again ;)

To all users of quickcams based webcams: With the compilation/install
of the referred module, you obtain a program called qcset. This
applications is an interface with cam/module parameters. To avoid the
problems that I had, execute 'qcset /dev/video0 compat=dblbuf' where, in my
case, /dev/video0 is the video device where the webcam is attached to.

HTH
