I can't help for suse but I guess other users will help you.

Imagine your soundcard is in /dev/dsp and your mic too. Open up a mixer
(for example gmix), and enable "Record" and also "Mute" for the
microphone. Mute is to disable the electronic echo in your speakers when
you talk in the mic.

Then you can do a 'cat /dev/dsp > /dev/dsp'
if it works, congrats! GM will work.
If it doesn't work, you could have to install ALSA for full-duplex
support.
