Ok. The main advantage of having a "standalone installer-version" is
that you don't have to go trough all the dependencies a program has and
install them one by one. This is important to have under windows, when
you don't have a good package manager and you don't even know what
support programs/libs have installed, or on most distros that don't get
the install the dependencies a package has when you install it. (and,
well, debian does ;) ).
Please, don't take this as an attack to some linux distros, I really
like some of them (/me avoids to write redhat), but I miss this
capability of them. Please, correct me if they have this working
properly, as I would really like to know.
