Don't think this is the problem. The above mentioned warning message only 
states that arts found a user defined handler for SIG_PIPE while installing a 
SIG_IGN handler for it (SIG_IGN is installed because arts will be terminated 
on a SIG_PIPE, which can happen quite easily for example on a audio 
connection over network). Arts itself is not triggering a SIG_PIPE! You 
should look again for it, i am quite sure the problem is something else.

Some wrapper scripts will not help, at least for arts - arts is resumed 
automatically as it is needed, I think the same is true for esd when it is 
resumed by any other program. Think of the following: the daemon is 
successfully suspended by the wrapper, then you start gnomemeeting, some 
other program plays a sound (e.g. email notification, a warning ...), a there 
the daemon is again!
