[GnomeMeeting-list] .deb packages for 0.85, installed but complains gconf config

well i had to make my own symlinks for libcrypt, libssl, etc, but got
gnomemeeting to try to start, however got a dialog box saying 

"please check you gconf settings and permissions, it seems that gconf
is not properly setup on your system" 


so what do i do about that, i'm not real sure how to use like
gconf-config   or what permissions to check  i did try
dpkg-reconfigure gconf  without success.
