[GnomeMeeting-list] General standard for text-chat and more...?

Hi!
This is my question:
Does it look like it will be possible to text-chat with NetMeeting users further on?
I'm also thinking about the whiteboard function in NetMeeting that allows two users to make drawings or post pictures on a synchronized canvas.
Of course I wouldn't propose a solution that adapted to Microsoft's own protocols.
But are there any standards under work that will make this possible?
