[GnomeMeeting-devel-list] Usability question

Hello Calum,

We noticed that some translations were breaking the general look of
GnomeMeeting because there are too many menu entries. For example, look
german at :
http://vogonix.ath.cx/normal_gm.png
when the normal view should be:
http://www.gnomemeeting.org/screenshots/latest/GnomeMeeting_In_A_Call_With_Stats.png

The HIG recommends to use a File menu and an Edit menu. It is a pretty
good idea for mosts applications like gedit, but in GnomeMeeting, you
don't really Edit things, and you don't really manipulate File's. So I
think those menus are loosing their meaning. The File menu only contains
an entry to quit and the Edit menu only contains an entry for the
"Preferences" and for the "Configuration Druid".

Do you have an alternate suggestion to have less "empty" menus perhaps
meaningless in GM's case? For example, would having the "Call" menu as
main menu be possible? (It would contain the normal operations +
Preferences/Druid + Quit). What does the HIG foresee for applications
that do not Edit things or manipulate Files?

Thanks,
