Looks like a bit of clarification is needed....

Firstly, in this context, it is best not to think about the term
"location management," but instead of the underlying technology.

The idea behind this XML archiver I created is that each capplet makes
an XML-based snapshot of its configuration and stores it whenever the
user applies settings and closes the capplet. The XML data are then
archived, allowing for three possible scenarios:

1. Different configuration profiles may be archived, allowing one to
switch easily between multiple configurations. This is what we are
referring to as location management.
2. We can restore earlier, overwritten configuration, as in multi-level
undo.
3. One can push configuration out to more than one computer, allowing
for easier remote administration.

Number (3) is applicable primarily to the Ximian Setup Tools -- which
use the same XML archiving technology -- and not to the desktop
settings.

To facilitate easier maintenance, I have integrated the functionality
required to do this archiving in a configuration moniker. This
eliminates the need to have any direct support for the XML archiving in
the capplets.

I have only recently learned of the multi-session effort, and it strikes
me that these two technologies do the same thing. As I mentioned above,
one can easily implement multi-session support using the XML archiving
system I devised. That would require that applications be aware of this
system in some way, if only by knowing to specify the configuration
moniker (or key) correctly.
