I do plan to merge the preferences:, sysconfig: etc. VFS modules into
both stable and HEAD of nautilus/gnome-vfs, assuming the patches are
accepted.

Ideally control-center would use the VFS in order to locate the
.desktop files to display, so that changing the VFS module
automatically updates both the standalone shell and Nautilus.

This code is in the "desktop-vfs-module" in CVS, feel free to go ahead
and use that module - it won't work with Nautilus without some
Nautilus hacks I have to get merged though.

I'm happy to send my current Nautilus patch to anyone, it's just not
quite ready to pass a code review.
