Hello,

just got to know about Brussels Events 2004/04/14 being worth to
forward. Following abstracts taken from FFII event pages per Cut&Paste,

FFII Event Planning:

FFII will organise an Information Infrastructure Conference in Brussels
on April 14-15 and some tours through European capitals before and after
that. On May 17-18 the EU Council is meeting to reach agreement on the
software patent directive. The Council's decision process is dominated
by patent lawyers who will try to kill the Parliament's decision and
reintroduce unlimited patentability. On June 10th the European
Parliament will be reelected. We have a lot to do, and much of it is
planned here.

"Patent Riots" 2004!
A demonstration of the economic -- and democratic -- majority in support
of the European Parliament's position on software patents and for
parliamentary democracy in the EU, against national governments who are
using the Commission and the Council as a means of circumventing
democratic control. Last year a successful predecessor demo was termed
"the 2003 Patent Riots" by US computer columnist John Dvorak. Although
quite peaceful and imaginative, the event expressed the fact that
professionals from all over Europe cared to come to Brussels, which says
a lot about the state of the patent system and of EU democracy.

Time and Place: 2004-04-14 11.30-14.00

starting with a rally on Place du Luxembourg (EP) marching to Council
and Commission, possibly also Belgian governmental institutions
most up-to-date planning info is probably found on AEL Wiki Logistics
Pages (http://wiki.ael.be/index.php/Demo14and15april)
