Sadly, it's just an shtml-backport hack, but yeah, there's lots of design
bits from the new site in there.

It's a combination of designs from radagast, digitect and myself.

I disagree. They are already 'discoloured' links, purely as a design choice.
Removing the underlines takes away the last commonly recognisable evidence
that they are links. I think this is an important issue for usability and
accessibility.

Not to those main links, but it will be given prominent linkage on the
to-be-published differently-designed gnome.org front page. It's not a
critical point of navigation for the entire GNOME site, so it's not
appropriate in the masthead.

Which bits in particular? I tested with 800x600 and it looks ok. That's
pretty much the lower bound of what's useful to support (at least in non
specialised html format).
