Here's another hack of Martin's tweak. The only difference in the six
are color.

To me, the most appealing part of both Martin's first and second designs
are their visual structure and how that relates to the corresponding
content. GNOME as a lot of tentacles and the way he put these at the top
of the page (distinctly segregated from the rest of the page, and yet
still prominent) starts to make sense of everything.
The hacks above are really just exploring minor visual variations. While
all the designs passed around over the last week are clean, I think we
still seem to be short on capturing GNOMEness. Guess I see them
conveying less character than the old GNOME site, similar to
news.gnome.org or developer.gnome.org.
Completely unrelated to the aesthetic/design discussion, I think I'm
going to set up a master page with a structural outline at least three
levels deep this weekend so that we have a reference point for that
discussion. I'll go back through the list and pull out everything
suggested to form a detailed list of pages. Obviously it will be
structured to my initial thinking about it, but don't worry--I'll be
glad to post any and all alternate opinions for general comparison and
discussion.
