If I'm right this entry should use the GTK_STOCK_OPEN icon, so at 32x32
you are using a 24x24 icon

Yeah, change the code (gnome-panel?) to use a gnome-recent.png icon,
then build up something using, i.e. a folder (or a file) with a little
clock.
