[gnome-slackware]Installing GNOME 1.4 from source

G'day!

I recently found on this mailing list this excellent tutorial on building
GNOME from source: http://www.karubik.de/gig/index.html. First of all let me
take the opportunity to express my thanks to the authors, because it has been
of great help.

However one thing isn't entirely clear to me when installing GNOME 1.4.1:

The "prepare ..." page says that some tarballs need a workaround for a
specific problem (something about gtk-config, gnome-config and includes) and
that I need to type the following:
export CFLAGS="${CFLAGS} -I$INSTPATH/include" and
export CXXFLAGS="${CXXFLAGS} -I$INSTPATH/include" before calling ./configure.

Then the "default installation procedure" page mentions the "export CFLAGS..."
command but not the CXXFLAGS one.

About 10 lines further on this same page it says some applications need these
environment variables even more expanded:
export CFLAGS="$CFLAGS -I/$INSTPREF/include/gnome-1.0/
- -I/$INSTPREF/include/libglade-1.0 -I/$INSTPREF/include" and
export CXXFLAGS="$CXXFLAGS -I/$INSTPREF/include/gnome-1.0/
- -I/$INSTPREF/include/libglade-1.0 -I/$INSTPREF/include".

Now the obvious question: how do I know for which of the tarballs I need to
use which of the export commands?

As a side note, I have also noticed the recent GNOME additions in
slackware-current, I've taken a look at the various source .build scripts,
and not a single time I have encountered any such export command!

Help me I'm lost here :)

Thanks,
Kristof
