X display issues

Hi all

 

Running RedHat 8.0, kernel version 2.4, gnome v2.0. Using Exceed 6.0, for Windows users to open a graphical loging to the Linux box. Every now and then there are problems where either the user moves the gnome panel to left or right side of screen, or it just appears there. On login, the following message appears:

 

Application "gnome-panel" (process 3983) has crashed due to a fatal error.

(Aborted)

 

And the display server keeps trying to respawn the panel, causing the same error.

 

Can anybody suggest a fix?
