Just an idea:
http://www.pilot-link.org/node/175
The writer reports success with the Zire 72 by pressing hotsync,
cancelling after 3 secs, and pressing hotsync again.
If that doesn't work, please send in the usual diagnostics:
o start gpilotd in a console and capture the messages
o do dmesg and capture the visor module/usb messages
o try using 'pilot-xfer -p /dev/pilot -l' and
'pilot-xfer -p /dev/pilot -b /tmp/mydir'
and see if that works error-free.
o report the error messages from gnome-pilot:
is it timing out or just never seeing a sync start?
