No, there is nothing more to the file when I press the hotsync button
(in /proc/bus/usb/devices).

Sorry, I do not use a cradle, I use the cable that comes with the TREO 270.
I hit the hotsync button on the cable.

gpilotd gives me the warning: 
Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display ( when I hit the hotsync button).
