Clie 610C sync problem

Clean install of MDK 8.2 (no cooker rpms this time :-), no Ximian
desktop.

Pilot-link 0.11.3 and gnome-pilot 0.1.65 (with patch) compiled from
source and installed under /usr/local.

pilot-link: ./configure --with-perl=/usr/bin/perl --with-py
thon=/usr/lib/python2.2/ && cd bindings/Perl && perl Makefile.PL && cd
..

gnome-pilot: ./configure --prefix=/usr/local --enable-usb
--with-pisock=/usr/local

pilot-xfer -l works. Here's what happens with gpilotd:

Google turns up some other questions about this error, but no answers.

any ideas?
