Syncing multiple devices, same user

I've been keeping up with "bleeding edge" daily evo snapshots provided by
Ximian GNOME (over a RedHat 7.1/7.2 base distro), so I can't really expect
"rock-solid" consistency, but I have never been successful in the following
area:

** I need to sync multiple palm devices to the same database (now, basically
just evo) on a single workstation. No net syncing, and I'm always using the
same cradle. The multiple devices are all different models of a Palm
product. And there really is only one "user" here. **

Sounds simple. But depending on how I go about it, I either get multiple
occurrences of the same contacts/events, or new records only get added to
one device's database and not to the other.

Can anyone advise on this? I didn't see it on any FAQ lists...
