if you get a "unknown pilotid X", it is because gpilotd hasn't been
configured for your pilot Id (or your pilot has no Id). Check the README
for help.

Doesn't sound like a bad/hard thing to do. Can you mail me a sample of
such a log, so I have an idea of what to put in it.
